"Is 1GB enough, or should I get 20GB?" The real answer depends on a different question: what will you actually use your phone for on this trip?
Roughly how much daily use costs
These are the deliberately conservative (rounded up) daily estimates our own calculator uses:
| Use | Approx. daily data |
|---|---|
| Maps and messaging (navigation, WhatsApp, occasional calls) | ~150 MB |
| Social media (half an hour of scrolling a day, with autoplay video) | ~400 MB |
| Video calls (about half an hour a day) | ~350 MB |
| Streaming video (an hour a day, standard definition) | ~900 MB |
| Hotspot / tethering a laptop or tablet | ~600 MB |
These add up: someone using maps plus social media spends roughly 550 MB a day; add half an hour of streaming each evening and that climbs to around 1.5 GB a day.
A rough multiplier by trip length
Multiply your daily estimate by the number of days you're staying, then add a safety margin for app updates, background sync, and "we stayed one extra day" situations. Our Light / Balanced / Heavy / Unlimited plan tiers are built to match exactly these usage profiles:
- Light: Maps, messaging, the occasional call.
- Balanced: The above plus social media and moderate use — enough for most travellers.
- Heavy: For video, sharing and heavy hotspot use.
- Unlimited: For travellers who'd rather not think about data at all.
Don't guess, calculate
The table above gives a rough idea; for the exact number, use our data calculator. It asks how many days you're staying and how often you'll use each kind of app, adds the safety margin automatically, and shows the plans that cover it.
If you'll need calls and texts too
If you expect to phone a hotel, restaurant or taxi while in Türkiye, a plan that includes local calls and SMS — not just data — will make life easier.
In short
- Work out your usage type: light, balanced, or heavy.
- Multiply the daily estimate by your number of days, add a safety margin.
- Use the calculator for the exact number — don't guess.
- If you'll need calls or texts, pick a combo plan.
