"Should I install the eSIM now, or right before departure?" — this is the most common question we get right after a purchase. The short answer: you can install almost any time, because installing and starting the plan are two different things.
Installing is just downloading a file
Installing an eSIM means downloading a small profile file to your phone. That needs an internet connection — but it can be any Wi-Fi or mobile data you have at that moment, not the Türkiye plan you bought.
Once the profile is on your phone, it sits there quietly. It does not drain battery, does not use data, and does not count against your plan's days.
When does the plan actually start?
Validity begins not when you install the profile, but when the eSIM first connects to a network in Türkiye. So however much time passes between installing and first use — a day or three weeks — none of it comes out of your plan.
This also protects you against date changes: if your flight is delayed or you move your trip earlier or later, the installed profile does not expire. The clock starts the moment you first connect.
How early can you install?
There is no practical limit. You can install right after purchase, days or weeks before you travel, and forget about it. In fact installing early is an advantage — you scan the QR code in a calm setting instead of hunting for Wi-Fi at the last minute.

Can you install on the plane?
Generally not recommended. In-flight Wi-Fi can be unstable, and if the connection drops mid-download the profile can end up incomplete. Installing before departure or after landing is far more reliable.
