One of the classic questions before visiting Türkiye: "which network has the best signal?" The honest answer depends on where you're going — but the good news is you don't need to decide this before you travel.
All three, one profile
Your eSIM is not locked to a single carrier. Your phone automatically picks whichever of Turkcell, Türk Telekom or Vodafone gives the strongest signal at your location. Moving between cities, you don't need to do anything by hand — your phone sorts it out in the background.
In cities and tourist areas, you won't notice a difference
In busy tourist regions — Istanbul, Antalya, Izmir, Cappadocia — all three operators run solid infrastructure. Hotels, restaurants, main streets, airports: in these kinds of places, which network you happen to be on rarely matters in practice.
Rural and mountainous areas are where it actually differs
Once you get off the beaten path — inland from the coast, into rural or mountainous areas — real coverage differences show up between operators. It is a common industry reputation that Turkcell has the widest rural coverage, though this varies by exact location and can't be guaranteed in advance.
If your signal weakens on a hiking route, a village visit, or accommodation away from main roads, the manual selection step below is worth using.
When to select a network manually
Automatic selection usually finds the right network, but it can occasionally get stuck — the network name shows, bars are full, but no data comes through. If that happens:
- iPhone: Settings › Cellular › the eSIM line › Network Selection. Turn off Automatic and wait for the scan to finish (can take up to a minute).
- Android: Settings › Network & internet › Mobile network › Network operators.
